Day 1 | Nagano

Welcome to Nagano. Famous for the 1998 Winter Olympics and a regular destination on our tours. After arriving, briefing and logistics we will head out for a short ride to visit the 1600 year old Zenkoji temple before meeting for our first dinner.

10 km | 100 m

Day 2 | Hakuba

We will kick of first serious day of the tour with a great ride to Hakuba, the famous ski resort town in the central alps. The course to get there is a little hilly, something you will get used to riding in Japan, but with a visit to Togakushi Shrine and the small, quite roads synonymous of the region it will be an enjoyable first day on the bike.

62 km | 2000 m

Day 3 | Norikura

Norikura is our destination today and at 1600m elevation it is a great ride. The day starts fast and flat before we tackle the small climb deep in the valley to take us to the base. Hot Springs are abundant and provide a chance to rest the legs after a great day on the bike.

110 km | 1600 m

Day 4 | Takayama

An incredible day on the bike lay ahead as we head over the highest road in Japan, Mt Norikura. At 2703m, it is one of the highest paved roads in the world and is a stunning climb, however due to the snow, we can only access from the Gifu side, which means a few little undulations before we get to the official base. Once at the summit, we can enjoy a 50km decent into our overnight stop in Takayama.

101 km | 3000 m

Day 5 | Toyama

Deep into the tour now and the coast in getting closer. However, we are locked in some World Heritage forests and our course today takes us on roads that will amaze around bend. A bit of climbing on the agenda, but we finish in Toyama with the hills behind us and only the coastal flats to take us onto Kanazawa for the next few days.

98 km | 2300 m

Day 6 | Shiki

With the major climbing completed, today we finally arrive at the coast. An interesting course as we cross incredible bridges and winding seaside roads on our way to Shiki, part of the famous Noto Peninsula. A mostly flat day, but with a 100km course, the legs will certainly enjoy a soak in the onsen tonight in preparation for the final days ride to Kanazawa.

106 km | 975 m

Day 7 | Kanazawa

We have come from deep in the alps, crested the highest road in Japan and now come to west coast. A brilliant ride to finish the day as we head south along the coast. Some surprises in store along the way, but with a short day on the agenda, we give the riders a chance to enjoy the ancient sights of Kanazawa. Well done on completing the Alps to the Coast Tour!
